Metandienone, known by other names such as methandienone or methandrostenolone, is a synthetic active anabolic androgenic (AAS) which is orally consumable and sold online in the popular name Dianabol which is used medically for treatment of various medical conditions and non-medically as a performance-enhancing supplement. It is known for positive effect on muscles as well as physical strength.
The manufacture of metandienone was initially researched and synthesized by CIBA researchers in 1955 for marketing in the United States and Germany and later got patented in the brand name of Dianabol in 1958. CIBA collaborated with John Bosley Ziegler, a well-known physical rehabilitation physician, for its pharmaceutical performance enhancement with the purpose of testing it on professional weightlifters.
Ziegler was a close friend of Bob Hoffman, the U.S. Olympic weightlifting team coach and could get easy access to players during their highest performance. In his efforts along with other researchers during 1960s, Ziegler became suspicious about the Russian Olympic teams performance and he revealed that the team was using some chemical to enhance their performance. His suspicion was a truth because Russian team was taking Dianabol. Then he studied Dianabol effects on body performance. Later, American Olympic athletes were also found to be using this drug.
Forbidden use of Dianabol
The Dianabol before and after use by the Olympic players witnessed a different scenario of players performance and its use was banned by all major sporting associations such as International Olympic Committee, FIFA, ITF, National Hockey league, and many others. The American government especially banned Dianabol like steroids to prevent unfair practices in all major sports and even side effects of these steroids are also very serious and they couldnt be allowed for sale in the open market to the general public. Doping tests were introduced to detect the use of Dianabol before and after the performance and several fomr of penalties were introduced for their users.
